ABOUT
The Department was started with the inception of the college in 1982. English is offered as compulsory basic course for all the faculties. Later English was introduced as one of the optional subjects in the year 1996. And P.G. started in 2012 Prof P.B. Badiger had headed the department since its infancy to 2013, Prof. P.B. Badiger backed up, gave a good base and developed the department. Also eminent professors like A. K. Maniyar, K. K. Hubli, Miss.N. D. Navalagi and S. T Halki have rendered their service to the department. Now Prof. M. H. Jogi is heading the department under the guidance of dynamic personality, senior English faculty and the principal of our college Prof. N. R. Hallur. Now professors V. Y. Madiwalar and Shivakumar S P are serving in the department.
The department has well equipped language lab for students. The department has number of books, English journals and CDs at the college Library. The department has been conducting seminars, Group discussions, Guest Lecturers workshops for students. And teaching along with projectors, innovative things and using modern teaching equipments in optional classes.
The department has been giving Gold Medal and 500 cash prize to B.A. final year student who scores highest marks in the optional English at the V and VI semesters:
The department organized UGC sponsored one day and two days state and national level Seminars, conducted interview skills Training programme and mock interview and inter-collegiate and college level English quiz competition. Also department will start coaching classes in General English for competitative exams, to oraganize and state level seminars, to introduce functional English classes and classes in communication skills.
VISION
We seek to foster knowledge and a love of literature and of language in our students. To this and we will provide students in all emphasis areas with a coherent curricular framework and relevant, well –structured course choices. We will teach a variety of literary, analytical, pedagogical and theoretical skills. We will teach students to speak, read and write effectively. We will teach students to think deeply and to reflect on what they have learned. We will encourage a love of learning and an appreciation for a liberal education
MISSION
The Department of English aims at transforming the students into the rational human beings with an inquisitive and argumentative bent of mind through literary, theoretical and linguistic teaching. The department also envisions the healthy and positive cultural growth of the students for the better social, economic, political and cultural environment in the country. We believe in the multiethnic, multicultural, multi religious texture of our country.
Accordingly, we strive to shape and reshape the attitudes of the students compatible to these diversities in order to strengthen the democratic spirit of our country.
